Friday, December 30th, Winston Salem, North Carolina, USA

Now part of one of the Largest Martial Arts Tournaments in the USA!
www.AKPromotions.org or call and register at (843) 773-1005.

IKF/PKB President Johnny Davis is proud to announce after a few days of wrangling trying to keep the PKB World Cup in Las Vegas ( due to the cancellation of the World Sports Expo) and were unsuccessful at securing a new venue there, Davis decided to move the event to another coast, venue and world class event!

The National Black Belt League's Super Grands World Games is not only one of... if not the largest martial arts event in the United States but has the prestige that is perfect to host the first annual IKF/PKB World Cup Event!

The IKF/PKB World Cup will be held on Friday, December 30th in Winston Salem, North Carolina at the beautiful Embassy Suites and Convention Center. The Super Grands tournament is well over 25 years old and hosts over 2000 participants annually! Get this, the tournament is a week long affair and is done the 'holiday week' of December 26th thru December 31st!

This may sound like a strange time for non martial artists but for those in the know in martial arts, they know the popularity of this event is truly factual. The Super Grands World Games continues to draw thousands of participants and spectators from around the world! It's quiet amazing indeed...and the chances of it cancelling ...is almost ZERO... barring anything major.

"We know this change of coast and date may not work for some of you that already registered and if not, we understand this and will refund your fee." Says Davis. "However, on the other hand, we hope this move will give even more fighters the opportunity to register and attend this first, IKF/PKB World Cup Kickboxing Sparring event in North Carolina."

Davis and his IKF/PKB are slightly changing the registration fee and deadlines to the following:

  • $55 From now until December 24th.
  • After December 24th up till 10:AM Friday morning, December 30th $65.
  • Fighters are advised to register earlier, so that others can see they are entering the event...
Fighters will put you on the tournament registration page.

Registration can be done at www.AKPromotions.org or you can call and register on the phone at (843) 773-1005.

Your Chance to be an IKF/PKB World Cup Champion is in your grasps...Oh, and all you amateur MMA fighters... you can roll but can you stand? Here is your chance to find out! Hope to see you there!

Sumter Showdown Kickboxing 3...
Nelson Retains IKF East Coast Title!

IKF Promoter Mr. Jerome Robinson should feel very good about his third Kickboxing show held this past Saturday night in Sumter, South Carolina at the Palmetto Xplosion Center. It was a very nice event, decent turnout and some impressive fights!

Dave Eugene Nelson successfully defended his IKF East Coast Tournament Title against tough and game Holden Nagel of Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Nagel was able to land a nice Kick to the head of Nelson that put him to the Canvas early in the fight. But it was Nelson who continued to land overhand rights and some impressive spin kicks throughout the fight. In the end, the judges were split but Nelson came out ahead, 48-47 Nagel, 48-47 Nelson and 48-46 Nelson.

It was a close fight as intended in the matching.

Also in one of the best fights of the night Aaron "Kill Bill" Shaw of Sumter, South Carolina matched up against Alex Kearschner of Charlotte, North Carolina.

This fight showed both men going back and forth but "Kill Bill" Shaw was in control throughout most of the bout. Shaw took the unanimous decision, 30-26, 30-26 and 29-28.

Congrats to all fighters as they gave the fans a great show and proved again why Kickboxing is one of the most exciting contact sports in the World! Forward March...

After 5 rounds of action, Benoit Ladouceur (Gatineau, Canada, 21-2, 195/88.6, 6'1", 38) won the vacant IKF Amateur Full Contact Rules Light Heavyweight World Title by unanimous decision, 49-46, 48-47 and 50-45. The 38 year old Ladouceur defeated Switzerland's Sébastien Bozonet, (Geneva, Switzerland, 14-1, 195/88.6, 22) at the Gatineau Convention Center.

Bozonet dominated the first two rounds of combat before seeing Ladouceur take over in the last three. Ladouceur's won the vacant title and had already won another organizations North American title in the same category. After the fight, Ladouceur's coach and event promoter, former world champion Jean-Yves Thériault, said he believes his protégé's experience was an asset. "He has a maturity now that he had not the first time he tried to win the championship. He knows how to trap his opponent and that's what he did." said Jean-Yves Thériault.

The coach also praised Ladouceur's preparation, saying he was more motivated than ever in the past six months. As for the continuation of things for the new world champion, Thériault says it will be up to the latter to choose. "He could retire to glory or decide to face the greatest champions," he said. "I never pushed him, it will be to decide him." The new world champion, however, preferred to enjoy the moment. However, he admits that it will be difficult to resist the temptation to defend his title.

You Can't Be FIRST...
But You Can Be NEXT...

Missouri USA is First on the map for the 2017 IKF World Classic! Light Heavyweight International Rules Fighter Ian Zarvos of St Peters, Missouri, USA is the FIRST Fighter to register to compete in the 2017 IKF World Classic.

Zarvos got a short but sweet taste of the IKF World Classic at last years 2016 IKF World Classic when he fell in the first round to eventual Champion Tim Lo by TKO at :15 seconds of round 2.

However, Zarvos and the IKF are not questioning his ability from that loss. Zarvos had no shame in the loss as it was only his 3rd Kickboxing bout against a much more experienced fighter. Eventual Champion Lo of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, already had a fight record of 18-3 with 8 of his wins by KO/TKO. The two met up in the first round of the 8 fighter bracket. The first time Tournament contender didn't let his first career loss get him down as it only motivated him to come back in 2017 in search of the IKF Gold!

Knowing his trainer though may have had a significant part in his decision to not stop there. His trainer is multi time IKF Tournament Champion Kevin "The Hitman" Engel. Engel was also an exceptional MMA Fighter as well finishing his Pro MMA Career with a 5-1 record, only to move on to open his own successful training gym.

Engel too lost his first IKF Tournament Title in the 2001 IKF National Amateur Tournament in Olathe, Kansas, USA. Kevin was defeated by Mark Feakes of Akron, Ohio (12-7-1/2) by TKO at 1:05 of round 2.

After that first Tournament, like Zarvos, Kevin was hooked and ready to come back for the title he knew should have been his...

Engel's first IKF Tournament title was at the 2002 IKF USA Nationals held at the Radisson Quad City Plaza / RiverCenter in Davenport, Iowa, USA (Prior to the Tournament being called the World Classic). His win was in the Full Contact Rule style in the Super Middleweight: division. Engel first defeated Christopher Terry (Phoenix, Arizona, USA, 8-3/5) in the opening round by TKO at 1:34 of round 1. In the Championship bout he defeated Shannon Hudson (Lyman, South Carolina, USA, 9-4/4) by unanimous decision 29-28, 30-27 & 30-27. Hudson later went on to become an IKF Pro World Champion years later.

Engel followed his 2002 Tournament Title up with another IKF Tournament title at the 2003 IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Championship at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA. Engel again fought in the Full Contact Rule style, which at the time was the largest and most popular rule style in the tournament and in the United States. This time he moved up in weight to the Light Cruiserweight division. In the opening round he defeated Jeremy Hodges (Beloit, Wisconsin, USA) by unanimous decision. In the Championship bout he defeated Bill Jardine (Mondovi, Wisconsin, USA, 11-3/1) also by by unanimous decision.

By the time Engel turned Pro, his amateur kickboxing record was 22-3 with 10 wins coming by KO/TKO. Along with having success in Pro Kickboxing, Kevin was also a successful pro boxer where he won his first 13 straight bouts, including the vacant World Boxing Foundation Intercontinental light heavyweight title. He ended his Pro boxing career with a record of 20-14 with 16 wins by KO.

One thing we can also add is that even Engel's skill came from yet another great fighter and former IKF Tournament Champion, Jesse "Golden Boy" Finney

So Ian Zarvos is the First! The question now is,
"Who will be NEXT!?"
Are you ready to
"Walk the Walk"
At this years 2017 IKF World Classic?

  • IKF TITLE BOUTS

    • IKF Pro Unified Rules European Cruiserweight Title
      Louis Morais (Lisbon, Portugal, 20-6, 88.8kg, 6'2", 2-28-86, Rei Carualho, 968899586)
      VS George Davies (Bournemouth, England, 11-8, 88.5, 6'2", 7-27-93, Amir Subasic, 004479465995794)
WINNER: George Davies by unanimous decision, 50-45, 50-45, 50-45.
      • In what was a hastily rearranged title contest, Englands George Davies stepped in to face Louis Morais, replacing the injured Darren Anstey. Davies has mixed in good company, all the way back to his junior days but this was an entirely different prospect.
With a professional record of 20-6 and a similar amateur pedigree the Portugese Morais was favorite to capture this IKF title. But Davies had other plans.
The first round was a feeling out process with Davies taking the lead straight away. Morais dropped in some devastating rib kicks but Davies stamped his authority with Low kick and punch combinations, to take the round.
In then second they both went to work, with every shot carrying KO power. You could hear the audience gasp as the combinations went in. From low kicks to high, punch combinations to knees, both men put 110% into every technique. But again it was Davies who was more accurate and busier.
In the third round the style began as both fighters matched each other with turning kicks, jumping knees and punches. Davies was more effective but Morais was constantly dangerous, and the Englishman had to keep a tight defence in order to cope with the high kicks coming towards his head. Even so, Davies was now forging ahead with a strong defence and high work rate.
In the 4th round he stepped up and dominated as Morais looked for an equalizer. At times he looked desperate as Davies answered every question with a barrage of combinations.
In the final round both men were very tired following the massive effort each had put in throughout the contest, but Davies would not be denied. He had grabbed this opportunity with both hands and finished a shut out winner in this thrilling contest.

    • IKF Amateur Unified Rules Southern Area Light Welterweight Title
      Jaxwell Castro (Erith, England, 3-1, 61.9kg, 5'10", 5-7-99, Michael Teki, 00447729024794)
      VS Morgan Hennessey (Hanworth, England, 1-1, 62.5kg , 6'1", 9-27-98, Tony Newman, 00447432086287)
WINNER: Jaxwell Castro by RSF at 0:30 seconds of round 4.
Morgan Hennessey has been issued a 30 day IKF medical suspension until 12th December 2016.
      • This was a fantastic contest and one of the surprises of the night. Morgan Hennessey was another late replacement on this troublesome event and with a decent junior record he was just embarking on his senior outings. With only one senior contest to date the decision was taken by IKF UK to allow the title challenge to stay in place.
It proved to be one of the fights of the night as the super stylish Hennessey started fast with excellent punching combinations, absolutely dominating the first round. The more experienced Castro looked perplexed initially, but in the second he began to work. His range was much broader with kicks and knees scoring effectively. Hennessey continued to have success with his hands but was neglecting the rest of his weapons. Even so the work rate was high from both men and Castro sometimes looked troubled, but his own knees began to sink in and slow the puncher down.
The third round continued in a similar fashion, Hennessey busy with great punches, Castro countering with damaging knees and low kicks. In the 4th round both men started fast. It was a close fight and neither wanted to give space.
Hennessey faded very quickly and referee Pete Richardson stepped in to take up a standing count. Although he looked ok to continue from a distance, Richardson deemed that he had given everything and allowing him to continue would only result in damage, and called a halt to the contest.
There were token protests but it was probably the shrewdest decision of the evening from one of the IKF's top referee's. Hennessey got his opportunity early, and will return stronger, but tonight the contest and the belt belonged to Jaxwell Castro.

    • IKF Amateur Unified Rules Southern Area Bantamweight Title
      Paul Lucus (Milton Keynes, England, 8-5, 55.8kg, 5'4", 4-21-88, Tyrone Mc, 00447491641204)
      VS Todd Williams (Hastings, England, 5-0, 54.8kg, 5'7", 2-19-97, Andy Chambers, 00447399987948)
WINNER: Todd Williams by unanimous decision 50-43, 49-44, 50-43.
      • This was a high octane affair with both men committed to taking the title. Following a fairly even opening round that split the judges, Todd Williams settled into a pattern of Low kicks, knees and high kicks in combination, controlling most of the action. Lucus was always in it but just a little behind. However the work rate of both men suggested that it would be a tight affair if it went to the later rounds. And that is exactly what we got.
By the end of round 3 both men were very tired and Lucus knew that he needed a stoppage. He began to rally with low kicks that had an initial effect on Williams, but were soon met with accurate counters. It was an absorbing contest with both men worthy of the belt on their day.
But it was Williams turn this evening, as he ran away with a unanimous points decision.

    • IKF Amateur Unified Rules English Light Welterweight Title
      Harry McDonald (Southampton, England, 4-2, 64.1kg, 6'1", 6-27-99, Mo Abdurahman 00447958122099)
      VS Owen Evans (Cannock, England, 10-1, 64kg, 5'10", 7-31-97, Paul Haworth, 00447456097507)
WINNER: Owen Evans by RSF 1:30 round 4.
Harry McDonald has been issued a 30 day IKF medical suspension until 12th December 2016.
      • In another cracking title contest and again, a late replacement in the form of Harry McDonald, this bout exploded into action from the opening bell. Evans was quicker and stronger with turning heel kicks, punches and knee combinations. McDonald figured his best course of action was to finish early and so he dropped in devastating low kicks in response. In the second Evans opted to keep some range with push kicks, working his combinations from there and finishing with great knee strikes. McDonald grappled effectively but did not do enough work on the inside to make it count. In the third the going got tougher for McDonald as a mis-timed spinning back fist became and elbow, culminating in a minus point. This was made worse with Evans stepping up late in the round with punch combinations to force a count. Evans came out fast to finish the contest in the 4th and pinned McDonald in the corner. And after a number of unanswered punches the contest was stopped.
Another great match up with Owen Evans capturing the title.
