IKF Kickboxing Demo at Kernels Game!
This Saturday - In Iowa!

Sacramento, CA, USA: This Saturday, August 2nd, the Dubuque School of Kickboxing will perform a Kickboxing / Muay Thai demonstration at the start of the Kernels (Semi Pro Baseball Team in Iowa) baseball game at Cedar Rapids' Veterans Memorial Stadium at 7:PM. The Kickboxing team will demonstrate some of the exciting kicking and boxing techniques one can expect at this year's IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament on August 16th and 17th at the U.S. Cellular Center.

Over 200 kickboxers, family and friends are expected at this year's event. Mr. Dean Lessei, (Right) head coach of the Dubuque Kickboxing team will be available for comment immediately following the demonstration. IKF Promoter Ray Thompson (Right) is all locked in for the date of the 2003 IKF Amateur FCR North American Championships (In the Full Contact Rule Style).

The event will be November 15th in Greenville, South Carolina, USA at the Palmetto Expo Center. The host hotel will be the Greenville Hilton Hotel. The event will be filmed for the IKF/CSS Kickboxing Program and shown at a later date.

1. Who Can Enter This Event?
   • FROM USA: The Top 3 finishers at the 2003 IKF USA National Amateur Tournament may enter.
   • ANY fighter from Canada or Mexico may enter.
     
     
2. DIVISIONS
   • There will be 16 divisions (8 weight classes for MEN and 8 weight classes for WOMEN) for men and women ages 16 & up for this years 2003 event.
     
     
3. CURRENT IKF NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONS
   • All Current IKF Full Contact Rules North American Champions must enter this event to defend their IKF FCR Amateur North American Titles. However if no one enters this event in their weightclass they are not required to register for the event and will retain their title automatically.
     
     
4. The format of the tournament is as follows;
   • In FCR Divisions where there is an existing/current IKF Amateur North American Champion:
     • All CURRENT IKF North American Champions regardless of what country they are from (USA, Canada, Mexico) will be given the number 1 seed in their weight division bracket.
       • The 2003 IKF USA National Amateur Tournament Champion will be given the second seed.
       • The second place finisher of the 2003 IKF USA National Amateur Tournament in the division will be allowed to register but will be seeded among all remaining fighters from Mexico and Canada.
         
         
   • In FCR Divisions where there is NOT and existing/current IKF Amateur North American Champion:
     • If there is no existing/current IKF North American Champion in a division then the winner of the 2003 IKF USA National Amateur Tournament will be the top seed in the weight bracket.
       • The second place finisher of the 2003 IKF USA National Amateur Tournament in the division will be allowed to register but will be seeded among all remaining fighters.
         
         
   • NUMBER OF FIGHTERS ALLOWED
     • Since this is a "1" day event, We will only Accept the first "8" Amateur Fighters for each weightclass for this Tournament. With this in mind, we suggest those interested to send in their registration forms as quickly as possible. This is because we cannot have a fighter fight more than 3 times in 1 day, as in any tournament style fighting event. We will keep you posted as to WHO has registered in what weightclass as we have done with the IKF USA National Amateur Tournament.
       
       
5. REGISTRATION FEE:
   • The cost to Register for this tournament is $45.00 (U.S.) for all fighters.
     
     
6. LATE FEES
   • Registration must be paid in full by October 1st.
   • Late registration "RECEIVED" not Postmarked, after October 1st and up until October 11th will be charged an additional $30 late fee.

On Saturday September 27, 2003, Fairtex Gear and IKF Promoter Ryan Blackorby (Right) will launch the inaugural Fairtex Classic/IKF North American Amateur MuayThai Championships at the Riverplex in Peoria, Illinois, USA. The Fairtex Classic will feature Amateur MuayThai Rules Fighters only fighting under IKF modified Muay Thai rules: (no elbows and knees to the head).

There will be 3 different divisions. Adult Male. Adult Women and Juniors ages 17 and below. There will be "7" weightclasses for adult men and "7" weightclasses for adult women. The tournament will culminate with the championship bouts of each weight division in the early evening and two pro bouts with the main event featuring Number 1 IKF Ranked Pro Lightweight Bunkerd Fairtex (San Francisco, CA, USA, Thailand over 350 bouts - In USA: 12-1 record) against Number 2 IKF Ranked Pro Lightweight Raul Llopis (Ft. Wayne, Indiana, USA, 26-3/18)

First place prizes will be a blessed and framed mong kong, the traditional ceremonial head piece for all Muay Thai fighters in Thailand. Second place winners will receive Silver Gloves. Selected bouts will be shown on the IKF/CSS Kickboxing Program at a later date.

Rocklin, CA, July 29th
Live full contact Kickboxing will be held at the Rocklin Community Sunset Center, Friday, November 14th, 2003 at 8:PM. This will be the first full contact Kickboxing event ever held in the city and will feature some of the best kickboxers in the State. The event will be sanctioned by the IKF and the California Athletic Commission.

A.K. Promotions owned by professional and amateur promoter Johnny Davis, will host this night of "Feet, Fist and Fury!" It will feature Roseville's very own IKF California Lightweight Champion Robert Elledge (R) as the main event. Elledge is a two time IKF National Amateur Tournament Champion and also holds the IKF North American Amateur Tournament Title in his division. Undefeated as an amateur, his 13 wins and no losses will be challenged by another one of California's tough contenders. (opponent not determined at press time) Elledge who's only eighteen years old, trains out of IKF Middleweight Professional World Champion Dave Marinoble's gym, also of Roseville.

Approximately nine other local men, women and juniors will be "squaring off" in the 20' boxing ring against opponents from across California. Some of them include, Derek Burnsed, (Left with belt) Mike Nap, Dion Pimento, Mike Marinoble (At left in center with hat) and others from the Placer County area. (Northern, California) "This will be a first class event with lots of action, lights and music and it will be a real treat for local fight fans," says Davis. He continues, "Plans are to have the event shown delayed telecast on a local cable station. Some of the footage may also be shown on the IKF/CSS Kickboxing Series. We would like to get local businesses involved to help sponsor the event. I'm confident we can fill the venue to capacity!"

This is only one of several events Davis is planning in the coming months and getting set for a busy 2004. He's anticipating larger professional shows in the near future but wants to move gradually and cautiously to assure each event's success.

It's official! the IKF is proud to announce the addition of 5 Time World Kickboxing Champion Kathy "The Punisher" Long (Right) to the IKF/CSS Kickboxing Program host commentary team. Long and IKF President Steve Fossum finalized the agreement yesterday. Long will join Brooks Mason (Left) and Fossum as part of the IKF's Studio Team for the upcoming IKF/CSS Kickboxing Program. She will alternate between doing IKF Kickboxing reports around the globe to sitting in with Mason and Fossum as part of the desk segment studio segments.

Kathy began her studies in the martial arts with Aikido and has also studied in arts such as Shorin Ryu Karate & Kung Fu. She currently holds 4 different Black Belts in 4 different styles including a Masters Rank in Kung Fu San Soo. She's been known as the "Queen of Mean", "Princess of Pain" or "The Punisher" among other things as a well conditioned and hardened fighter. A two time Black Belt Hall of Fame Inductee (Woman of the Year 1991 and Full Contact Fighter of the Year 1992), the IKF never got the opportunity to have her fight for an IKF title because she retired from kickboxing before the start of the IKF to concentrate on her boxing and film career. Her work in the movie industry includes stunt work and fight choreography: She was Michelle Pfeiffer's stunt double in "Batman Returns" (1992) and fight choreographer for the "Death Becomes Her" (1992). She has appeared on several television shows, including "Walker, Texas Ranger" with Chuck Norris.

Kathy has also written several monthly columns, titled "Long Shots" for Black Belt Magazine and has also appeared in movies such as Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997), Under the Gun (1995), The Stranger (1995) Natural Born Killers (1994), Knights (1993) and Rage and Honor (1992).

However she has a long list of other accomplishments as well. She has appeared on numerous television shows and in publications ranging from People magazine to a full-color layout in the National Enquire, not to mention being on the cover of over a dozen martial arts magazines. She is also an accomplished musician who plays proficiently musical instruments such as the Harp, Violin and Guitar. She's written a book entitled "No! No! No!: A Woman's Guide to Personal Defense and Street Safety" (R) along with Kickboxing Fitness Videos such as, "Kickboxing for Fun & Fitness" (L) & "Championship Kickboxing with Kathy Long - "Round 1".

IN ADDITION: The IKF is in the process of attaining some other kickboxing personalities for various segments of the program. Due to her current schedule with some projects, Long will not be at the desk for the first 2 programs but will join Mason and Fossum on the third program. While Mason, Long and Fossum will be the program hosts at the desk, other personalities will be the programs roaming reporters. Some of our roaming reporters will include former champions like two time World Champion, Johnny Superfoot Davis.

Last night, July 26th, IKF Pro San Shou World Champion Cung Le and his Cung Le Promotional team hosted an excited crowd to 9 Amateur San Shou bouts and an exhibition bout at Born to Fight III at the Mt. Pleasant High School in San Jose California, USA. The full day event featured a limited contact daytime tournament followed by the night time full contact event. However, from what we saw at the day event, there was plenty of up and coming talent there and some appeared more than qualified to be on the night time full contact show. We are sure to see some of these individuals in the full contact ring soon.

The night time event started off with an exhibition bout which was followed by 9 real bouts. Although the main event was to be the top bout of the night between a top amateur woman's MuayThai fighter and a top amateur woman's San Shou fighter, some of the other bouts were just as exciting and could have also been billed as the main event.

CORRECTIONS MADE ON 7-28-03: One of the first of two that come to mind was the bout that matched up IKF Amateur San Shou California Cruiserweight Champion, Brian Madigan of Oakland, California, USA (14-5/0, 189, 6'1", 28, Brent Humby) against James Fanshier of El Dorado Hills, California, USA (9-1/4, 183, 5'10", 31, Cung Le). What made the bout more special was Fanshier took the bout on 48 hour notice when Madigan's opponent from Holland informed the Le camp that he could not make the event. Fanshier looked as if he had been training for the bout for months. This was a rematch. The two fought in Atlanta about a month ago to make the USA San Shou Team in a traditional San Shou bout fought on a let tai platform. In that bout, Fanshier defeated Madigan. (Please see below on this page on 7-17-03 the headline, "Love and Hate")

The always in shape Fanshier had a war on his hands since Madigan was primed and ready. For 3 rounds the two went toe to toe which was highlighted by a blasting head kick by Madigan that dropped Franshier to the canvas in round two. He beat the count and continued strong until the end. In the end, Madigan marked up close split decision win.

The other bout that stood out was between one of Cung Le's top coaches at his school, Ed Carpio (10-4/0, 134, 5'5", 30, Cung Le) and Duncan Duffin of Wyoming, Michigan, USA, (7-5/1, 133, 5'6", 34, Douglas Duffin). These two put on an exciting 4 rounds of San Shou action and had the crowd on their feet. Carpio though had little trouble dominating when he needed to, never losing a single round to Duffin. Carpio took the win by unanimous decision.

The main event of the night was the fight that matched up two different rule styles against each other... well sorta. In one corner stood top amateur woman's MuayThai fighter Lynda Loyce (Right) of San Francisco, California, USA (10-3/1, 125, 5'4", 26, Jongsanon & Boonkerd Fairtex) and in the other corner was top amateur woman's San Shou fighter, IKF Woman's Amateur San Shou U.S. Champion, Jenna Castillo (Right) of San Jose, California, USA (12-0/2, 121, 5'2", 21, Cung Le) It was clear to us that this was the bout the majority of the crowd had some to see. We said "Sorta" above because this was not exactly two rule styles against each other. Although the two excelled in different rule styles, this bout would be fought under only one of them, San Shou rules. The San Shou rules not only added an unfamiliar element for Loyce to deal with (Throws) but also take away one of her strongest weapons, her knees. So why would Loyce agree to such a bout? Easy answer, the two promised no matter what the outcome, to rematch in September under MuayThai rules.

Since this was under San Shou rules, it should have been all Castillo, but Loyce had no such plans. Although the frustration was obvious on Loyce's face when dealing with the throw attempts, she never backed down and held her ground pretty well against Castillo. The throws was what many thought would be the difference. They were in many spectators minds, Castillo's main weapon and strong point.... Ahhh... at least that was what we thought anyway. Calling us wrong, it was not Castillo's throws that stood out, it was her boxing! Yes, her BOXING! There were numerous times her hands lit up Loyce, even dropping her with a straight right in one round, which was probably a surprise to Loyce as well. But Castillo could not control the bout as many thought she should or would. Loyce did an excellent job of mixing up her attack and strategy on Castillo as well, taking her out of her San Shou focus and forcing her into her game of leg kicks. But to the surprise of many, when it appeared Loyce attained the level of control she needed, now it was Castillo who would take her out of her game with a throw or her boxing.

Leg kicks never played a major role in this bout. Both took them and gave them without a blink. In the end, Loyce proved she could hang in another rule style. Maybe not win yet, but she took the fight to the end and made many respect her ability because of it. Castillo proved she was not afraid of anyone in any rule style... well, at least for now. Come September, we will all see if taking Castillo's throws away will change her game much. Loyce is looking forward to the opportunity to introduce her knees to Castillo in "HER" game of MuayThai. It will be interesting to see what strategy the still undefeated Castillo brings to the ring in September. As for Loyce, we can pretty much figure whats on her mind, "Knee! Knee! Knee!" We look forward to the rematch. Castillo will take the win this time but not unanimous, it was a majority decision since one judge, Ray Belowitz scored it event at two rounds each while the other two judges gave it to Castillo 4 rounds to none and 3 rounds to 1. 3. Brian Kuhn (San Jose, California, USA, 5-3/1, 194, 6'3", 33, Self) defeated Jeff Gonzales (UsH, San Jose, California, USA, 3-2/0, 187, 6', 21, Cung Le) by a questionable split decision.

Starting Friday, September 5th, the IKF/CSS Kickboxing Program will bring Kickboxing action to TV for 17 straight Friday nights in the South East region of the U.S. The region includes 9 states Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina & North Carolina. The viewer subscriber list totals nearly 4 million (See below right) while the viewers are estimated at well over 10 million. Our first program date is approaching fast and we have been extremely busy around the IKF Headquarters here organizing fight footage, editing fight video, writing scripts for the in show segments, meeting with post production programs, talking to potential sponsors and on and on. To say the least, we have been VERY BUSY! Not to mention all the work with our yearly USA National Amateur Tournament.

With all that being said, we are making the first announcement as to where all of you associated with the IKF fit in to the new IKF/CSS Kickboxing Program. In the past there have been several different Kickboxing TV Programs done here and there on TV. Some have been great to watch while others, well, you know what we mean. When these programs were on, what was missing were the faces of the sport. Sure we saw the fights, but who are these people? Adding to this, the fights we did see were only those filmed as a major production. What about the fights we never see on TV such as the "MANY" Great Amateur bouts (Headgear and all) or the pro fights not professionally filmed?

Well, the goal of the IKF is to create stars of the sport and sometimes, those stars will come from some of the most unlikely places around the globe. Top fighters do not always come from the largest of cities and fight in the largest of events. Our goal is to discover as much talent in our sport as possible and put it on TV! Whether amateur or pro, young or old, small or big. Whether from the small town grass roots locations around the world or the major cities, the fact is, "Talent comes from EVERYWHERE!" For this reason we are making this request to EVERY person associated with the IKF ANYWHERE in the World. "We Want To Make You STARS!"

Currently the IKF is working with several post production companies in putting together various segments of the first several programs. These segments will include the opening and closing highlights of the show and various in program segments that will feature fighters and faces from around the IKF world. Where you can help will be two areas.

FIGHT FOOTAGE
The first will be video footage of great bouts, hits, knockdowns, kicks etc. of your fights, fighters and events. The IKF needs as many great hits as you can send them and if you think you have one of the greatest bouts ever fought in the sport, send us the whole bout! All of you have seen shows like "Funniest Home Videos" where viewers send in their personal, sometimes blurry and often unprofessionally filmed footage. Well this is the same concept. Don't get us wrong, if you have professional shot fight footage, this would be even better of course, but we know this is not always the case. This footage could be used in several areas. The opening highlights of the program, the closing highlights or in our special in show segment section called "Hits and Highlights". The "Hits and Highlights" segment will surly turn out to be one of the most popular of the program. This segment will air at the end of the program and have a run time of between 2 and 3 minutes and will be fast action clips of the Best Hits and Highlights we can attain.

As far as what footage and how to send it, we can only use footage from IKF Sanctioned events only. Although legally, IKF owns all fight footage of any IKF Sanctioned events, (See IKF Sanctioning) if we decide to use any of your footage we will want to attain a release form from you for use of the footage. We would need these signed forms from you, the sender and all the individuals who appear on the footage. We will have a page here on the site for you to print out soon, but for now, just send us your footage ASAP so we can get some of it on the first few programs.

When you send in footage, keep in mind we will accept any type of basic video (USA - VHS Format) up to top level Digital or Beta SP, which is the very best. When sending in your video, if you want us to see a certain part, please have that part Q'ed up for us so we do not have to spend time searching for it on the video. Include with your mailing a description of what you want us to focus on so we know what to look for. Also include the names and any fight stats you can of those in the spot you want us to view.

If you want to be a part of any of the first 4 programs, we need you to EXPRESS Mail your footage NOW! We go into the post production studio on August 6th and we will need to review your event prior to selecting it for the program. If you are sending footage from outside the USA make sure the footage has been transferred to USA - VHS Format already.

It could also be a segment featuring training ideas as well by a trainer or past or present fighters showing their favorite techniques. Whatever the segment will be it will be named after the sponsor. Sponsors name and or logo will be displayed at the bottom, side or top of the screen during the entire segment.
    
    
• ON THE ROAD - WHERE ARE THEY NOW
  • 3 Minutes: This segment will vary week to week and will feature current and local fighters, trainers and legends of the sport. "On the Road" will feature those current in the sport who are up and coming stars as well as already established individuals. "Where Are They Now" will take a look back at the past legends of our sport. Who they were, what they accomplished and where they are today. Sponsors name and or logo will be displayed at the bottom, side or top of the screen during the entire segment.
    
    
• INDIVIDUAL FIGHT SPONSOR
  • Segment time will vary depending on the length of the bout shown. This sponsorship will include the sponsors name on the tale of the tape and "On the screen during the entire bout".
    
    
• HITS & HIGHLIGHTS
  • 2 -3 Minutes: This may prove to be the most popular segment in the program. It will feature footage of bouts collected by our programming staff from events we have been a part of as well as bout footage sent in by viewers. Fast clips of exciting fight action this segment may grow so popular it could very well be extended in time in the future.
    
    
• FINAL ROUND SPONSOR SEGMENT TIME:
  • 2 Minutes: This segment will be the final sit down segment of the program and as they say in the fight game, "The last bout is what everyone remembers most!" This will review the entire show and look to the future of the sport. Fights we would like to see as well as fights that have taken place in the past. We may also discuss upcoming events in this segment as well as show clips of some great fights of the past, recent IKF Titles won around the world AND some great KNOCKOUT WINS!

PROGRAM INFO
The IKF/CSS Kickboxing program will start on the first Friday in September (September 5th) and will air IKF Kickboxing on a weekly basis at 11:PM to nearly 4 million households. Our first series will air for 17 straight weeks and run until December 26th featuring an hour program of IKF Kickboxing! During the run, there is a very good possibility of some "LIVE" event broadcast but most of the programs will feature tape delay of past IKF Kickboxing events. Some of the bouts featured may be IKF Sanctioned action from years ago to remind everyone of some of the great IKF Championship bouts few may have seen. Programming for the first couple of shows will feature the IKF Amateur program and amateur bouts. After the first couple programs we will feature both IKF Pro as well as specially selected IKF Amateur kickboxing bouts from IKF Sanctioned events and of course, IKF Tournament action from around the world.

What will make this program more exciting than any other past programs for the sport of kickboxing will be the shows format. Not only will the "Weekly" programming be a first for the sport since the 80's, the format will bring more attention to those individuals involved in the sport. The show segments will include things such as fighter profiles, training tips, special guests, gear and product reviews, gym visits and of course, plenty of exciting IKF Kickboxing Action!

CSS, a partnership between Comcast Corporation and Charter Communications, launched September 3, 1999 as a 24-hour regional sports network. CSS programming includes live and re-aired NCAA football, basketball and baseball games; weekly coach's and preview shows; minor league hockey and baseball; stock car racing; outdoor shows, ESPN NEWS and now, IKF Kickboxing. Currently, CSS has approximately 3.9 million subscribers across nine Southeastern states.

This coming Saturday, July 26th, IKF Pro San Shou World Champion Cung Le and his Cung Le Promotional team will present, Born to Fight III at the Mt. Pleasant High School in San Jose California, USA.

The event will be divided into two segments. The Day Segment will be an open tournament where fighters of different skill levels will test their abilities and compete in Sanshou (punch, kick, throw). To encourage the development of future champions there will be a Children's and Juniors Division, a beginners division, (with no head contact) as well as intermediate and advanced Sanshou divisions. The Night Segment will be a grand event called Super Fight Night. On this night many of our country's top amateur fighters will compete in the most prestigious San Shou tournament of the year. The fights will be an event to remember for those who desire to see future world champions in action.

The evening will be packed with exciting bouts from the best amateur Sanshou fighters in the US. The main event will be an exciting female bout between Lynda Loyce (Left) of San Francisco, California, USA (10-3/1, 125, 5'4", 26, Jongsanon & Boonkerd Fairtex) and IKF Woman's Amateur San Shou U.S. Champion, Jenna Castillo (Right) of San Jose, California, USA (12-0/2, 121, 5'2", 21, Cung Le) at the 125 lb weight class.

This will be one of the most exciting female fights in kickboxing history. Both Jenna and Lynda are very seasoned fighters with impressive records. Lynda trains at Fairtex in San Francisco, and Jenna trains at Cung Le's MATC in San Jose. Here is the fightcard as of press time today:

IKF Promoter, Pro Champion and upcoming World Title contender Jimmy Stewart (Right) and his promotional team are all set to ROCK Butler Pennsylvania tomorrow night, Friday, July 18th at the Days Inn. IKF Promoters Dan (Left) and Tim Stell of LTD Productions appear to be ready for another edition of Fairfield Fight Night at the Allan Witt Sports Complex (Fairfield Sports Center) at 1741 W. Texas Street in Fairfield, California, USA. The City of Fairfield Community Services In Association With the Stell Boy's Promotional Company, LTD Productions will present a night of both IKF Championship Kickboxing and amateur boxing. LTD has matched up 2 IKF Amateur titles and an exciting undercard of Northern California amateur kickboxers.

The event will feature a dual main event. One of the Main Events will be a rematch for the Vacant IKF Amateur IR Light Heavyweight California Title between number 6 IKF Ranked Glen Haley (Right - 5-0-1/4) of Santa Clara, California and number 7 IKF Ranked Floyd Savoy (Sorry, no photo available, 4-1-1/3) of San Francisco, California. The two fought to a split decision draw earlier this year on May 31st in Fairfield. In the bout California State Athletic Commission judges Susan Gitlin Thomas gave it to Savoy 39-37, Allen Reyes gave it to Haley 39-37 while Marcos Rosalas saw it a draw at 38-38. Both plan to bring a tad bit more to the ring Saturday night. Haley needs to make sure whatever happens, he doesn't get too banged up since he plans to "Walk the Walk" at this years IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament.

The other main event will feature another fighter already scheduled to go to this years IKF/TKO USA Nationals. At Nationals, Robert Elledge (Right, 12-0/3) of Roseville, California will be defending his USA National title but he will have to get through Jose Paez' (Sorry, no photo or stats available at press time) unharmed first and hopefully attain some more IKF Brass during the process. He and Paez' will be fighting for the vacant IKF Amateur FCR Light Welterweight California Title. Paez' will be no easy task for Elledge who knows first hand, Paez' will come to ROCK!

Someone recently asked a very good question on the kickboxing message board. "I see alot of regional and state champions listed on the rankings page any of these champions showing up to walk the walk in Iowa? " We thought the question was so good that we wanted to know ourselves. We wanted to also know what IKF Amateur Champions are just sitting on their titles and have never defended them. Surly there were a lot, but mainly because no one has ever challenged them. Still, we wondered what was stopping them from taking that next step to be a National Champion.

What we found out was that some are not even fighting anymore. These fighters are soon to have their titles retired/vacated to provide other fighters the opportunity to fight for them. Some of the IKF Amateur Champions of course have either already been to an IKF National Tournament while others are scheduled to "Walk the Walk" this year. Some will be seeking to win their 3rd and even their 4th IKF USA National title.

Over the next few days we will post up the various amateur champions in each rule style for everyone to see. Take a look at when and how they won their titles and if they have ever "Walked the Walk" at the IKF Nationals. As well, see which state and regional champions will be "Walking the Walk" this August in Iowa at the 5th annual IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament and what champions are being looked at by the IKF to be vacated for lack of activity.

Samuels went on to fight Gary Owens who held the "Non tournament" IKF Full Contact Rules Amateur Welterweight United States Title so the title could be unified. They fought on May 20th, 2000 in Fairfield California, USA. Samuels won by split decisions in one of the GREATEST amateur IKF bouts ever! The scores were 48-47 for Owens, 48-47 for Samuels and 49-46 Samuels. Already planning on it, Owens changed to fight MuayThai rules after the bout. In 2001 he entered the super middleweight division and won his prelim bout when he defeated Steve Fridh of Rockford, IL by unanimous decision, 29-25, 30-24 & 30-24. In his next round though he lost to Danny Griffin, a in the Hills, IL by unanimous decision, 30-27, 29-28 & 30-27. Griffin went on to win the title that year. In 2002 Shannon won his prelim bout over Brett Crosby of Clinton, MD by TKO at 1:34 of round 3 but lost in the final to Kevin Engel of St Louis, Missouri, by unanimous decision 29-28, 30-27 & 30-27.   Although he won't be there as a fighter this year he will be as a trainer, and has been there to "Walked the Walk" twice. In 1999 he won his first round prelim bout but in the final in the Light Middleweight Division he lost to Aaron Lassi of Duluth Minnesota by unanimous decision, 30-28, 30-27, 29-28. In 2000, he was as close as one could get to winning the title. In the final he lost to John Ingram of St Louis, MO (9-1/6) by majority decision (29-27, 29-27, 28-28) in a bout that could have went either way. This bout would make an excellent rematch but it never happened. He won his East Coast Title listed above on May 2nd, 1998 in Augusta, Georgia, USA when he defeated Lane Andrews, Indiana by Unanimous Decision at the PKC Nationals. • Light Heavyweight 172.1 lbs. - 179 lbs. South East US Champion: Stephen Thompson
  Not sure if we need to say anything here. Stephen has won every bout he has entered into, including "THREE" IKF USA National titles. He also won the 2002 IKF North American Tournament. In 2000 when Stephen was just 17 years old he won the adult men's middleweight title over number one seed Peyton Russell of Bloomington, Minnesota by unanimous decision 30-23, 30-24 and 30-24. In 2001 he successfully defended his middleweight title when he defeated Vilavahn Seukpanya by TKO at 14 seconds into the first round with a round kick to Seukpanya arms. It was the only strike thrown in the bout and set a new record for quickest win by KO/TKO. The kick broke Seukpanya's arm. In 2002 Stephen moved up to light heavyweight and won his THIRD national title when he defeated John Scanlon of Chicago, Illinois by TKO at 44 seconds of round 1. Stephen will be back again this year "Walking the Walk" in the Light Cruiserweight division. He won his South East title above on March 16th, 2002 in Augusta, Georgia, USA when he defeated Ruben Lopez of Atlanta Georgia, USA at 1:24 of round 2. Lopez threw a wild jump spinning kick and landed on his elbow claiming he was to injured to continue.   As of press time we were informed that Adam may be done with kickboxing. He was recently married and may move on to other things in life. However, he leaves behind a trail of success while fighting under the IKF banner. Adam won 2 consecutive IKF USA National titles and the 2002 IKF North American tournament as well. In 2001 he won his prelim bout by KO and won the USA Nationals Cruiserweight title when he defeated Cory Sirumacky by TKO at 1:10 of round 1. In 2002 Adam successfully defended his IKF Nationals Cruiserweight title when he defeated Tim Mazurkiewicz of Beloit, Wisconsin by majority decision 30-26, 30-26 & 28-28. • Heavyweight 195.1 lbs. - 215 lbs. West Coast Champion: Mike Marinoble
  Mike "Walked the Walk" in 2001 but lost a very close bout in the opening round to Tim Mazurkievicz of Roscoe, Illinois by unanimous decision. However, the bout had an "Official IKF" protest since 2 of the 3 judges were from Mazurkievicz hometown and 1 from his gym. The head of IKF Officials protested the bout after discovering this and disciplined the judges because they failed to leave their judging position and be replaced for this bout by neutral judges. Because of this, a protested review via video of the bout gave Marinoble the win so a 1 round fight-off was fought and Mazurkievicz won to advance to round 2. Mike won his title above on June 26th, 2000 in Sacramento, California, USA when he defeated Pete Garcia of Redding, CA, USA by unanimous decision, 40-36, 40-36 & 40-36.   Trent, like Stephen Tompkins is well known to the IKF Amateur ranks. Trent, like Tompkins, has never lost. He "Walked the Walk" at the 2001 IKF Nationals in Kansas City, Kansas and won his first round prelim bout when he defeated David Hampton of Calmet City, Illinois (10-3-2) by TKO at 28 seconds into the 2nd round to advance to the Final. In the final he defeated the defending National Champion, John Lenamon of Abilene, Texas (6-3/5) by unanimous decision, 29-28, 29-27 & 29-27. Trent went on to win the IKF North American Title on a regular event on May 11th, 2002 in Waterloo Iowa when he defeated Ivan Varga of Kitchener, Ontario Canada by a spinning hook kick KO at 40 seconds into the first round. Trent won his State title above in April of 2000 in Waterloo, Iowa, USA when he defeated Jason Fulcher by KO at :35 seconds round 1. He later defended his state title in a challenge bout on February 16th, 2001 in Davenport Iowa over Kenny Nyquist of Davenport, Iowa by KO at :35 seconds into round 1. Members of Dean Lessei's Dubuque Martial Arts Group Singto Muay Thai / Kickboxing Team were busy doing their part to help promote this year's IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament by participating in the Freedom Festival parade held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday morning, June 28th 2003. The Dubuque Martial Arts Group members marched in the parade (R) displaying posters for the upcoming event, handing out flyers, displaying some of the championship belts won by Team Singto and demonstrating Muay Thai combinations on the Thai pads.

Those in attendance where treated to an awesome display of power, speed, form and technique on the Thai pads as only Coach Lessei's team can demonstrate. The parade was well attended with around a couple thousand people by Mr. Lessei's estimation. The response that the Singto fighters received was very positive and their efforts at the Freedom Festival are sure to generate some interest in this year's Tournament on August 16th and 17th in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the US Cellular Center where spectators will witness the "Golden Glove's" of kickboxing known as the IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament.

In addition to taking part in the parade, Dubuque Martial Arts Group Team Singto members received permission from several area businesses to display the IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament Posters.

The Dubuque Martial Arts Group team members that took part in the parade were Coach Lessei, Assistant Coach Kevin Drake, 2001 & 2002 IKF National Champion David "Fists of Fury" Flury, Tom Hopper, Jerica Veach, Lauren Herrig, Mariah Betts, Jade Studelska, Jaden Veach, Linsey Reimer, Michael Blake, Maryann Flury, and Mr. Lessei's children Savannah & Luke Lessei.

In addition to the fight team members and students that participated in the parade were Team Singto's support team which consists of parents, friends, and family. The Dubuque Martial Arts Group Singto Muay Thai / Kickboxing team is well known in the Midwest and has a reputation for producing strong competitors with a solid foundation in the basic skills of the sport. Mr. Lessei strongly believes in developing the Juniors, "because they are the future of the sport." What helps him in this endeavor is the tremendous support he receives from the families of his team.

We all should appreciate the efforts that Mr. Lessei and his team are putting forth to promote this year's tournament. His work to spark interest will benefit us all come August 16th and 17th in Cedar Rapids, Iowa were we will see all of you who are ready to "Walk the Walk" and "Bring it ON!"

The Dubuque Martial Arts Group Team Singto will be doing another demonstration on Saturday, August 2nd in Cedar Rapids, Iowa before the start of the Cedar Rapids Kernels Baseball game. They will also be on hand to pass out flyers and posters for the IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament.

By July 4th of last year we had a little over 150 fighters registered for the 2002 IKF USA Nationals. That goal is clearly within reach as we approach Friday with already 83 Registered Fighters as of press time (2:45 PM) and we haven't picked up todays mail yet. Expect plenty more to be added later today, tomorrow and Friday (Not to mention those registering late that will come in between Friday and August 1st) for this years IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament. Last years 2002 IKF USA Nationals we had 244 fighters registered but only 200 showed up in Davenport Iowa to "Walk The Walk". This was no surprise as we have seen fighters pull out before the event in the past due to the many various reasons. For the 2001 Nationals there were 265 registered fighters but we only saw 207 show up in Kansas City, Kansas to "Walk The Walk". The year before in 2000, 145 fighters registered but only 116 showed up in Council Bluffs Iowa to "Walk Thew Walk!"

The only year we saw close to a 100% show-up rate was our first year, 1999, where we had 89 registered fighters and 85 showed up (Some of the 'Class of 1999' at right which includes some, not all, of the 1999 Champions, Fighters and Trainers) in Council Bluffs, Iowa to "Walk The Walk!"

Wins Another Tournament!
But Who Knew About It?

We here at the IKF find is a shame when a fighter such as Carter Williams (Right), or better yet FIGHTER'S fight their hearts out and in the end, no one hears about it. Such is the case with a recent event held in Villa Park, Illinois, USA where 8 American Heavy and Super Heavyweights hooked up to "Walk The Walk" for a major Grand Prize. A prize larger than May's K-1 event. "$10,000.00!"

However, despite the final prize, as we mentioned, "Who knew about it?". As one person recently wrote of his accounts of the event, "Promoters, Too Famous Inc. were the latest addition to the Hall of Fame of failed events. With a marketing strategy lifted from the storyline of Filed of Dreams, they built it.........but nobody came." This was a shame considering those who fought in the event. The same person went on to say, "The fact that the event suffered two major delays before beginning did not seem to anger the two hundred or so hard-core fans that actually found out about the event and then actually found their way to the venue."

Although few were there to witness it, we here at the IKF would like to congratulate Carter on yet another Tournament win and wish him the best of luck in future bouts. We would also like to give credit to those other fighters who fought and received no recognition. Here were the results of the 8 man tournament, bout by bout.
