Kronphet
Phetrachapat VS Gaston Bolanos Bout
Reversed By IKF Internal Judges Review |
In every IKF Sanctioned bout or event,
it is the responsibility of the IKF to
assure that all IKF seated Judges on any
IKF Sanctioned bout/event follow the "IKF" Judging Criteria as explained to
each fighter, trainer and official. As many here are aware, last week the IKF had a bout on an IKF
Sanctioned event (Lion Fight 27) that drew a lot of attention after the
final scores were announced. The bout featured Kronphet Phetrachapat of
Redondo Beach, California, USA (Via Thailand) with over 170 Pro fights
VS Gaston Bolanos of Dublin, California, USA with 7 Pro fights. On the
event in question, up until this bout, the judges scoring was in line with the
IKF criteria that was explained to
everyone in the rules meeting prior to the event. However, things changed in
this bout.
After 5 rounds, 2 judges scored the bout 48-47 for Phetrachapat and
one score it 48-47 for Bolanos. When the winner was announced, right
away the decision was in question which prompted an IKF
Internal Judges Review of the Judges scoring. This is a process that the IKF has used over the past 20+ years to assure the
fair score is decided in a bout where judges scores may be in question.
This past week the IKF sent out a
private clip of the fight in question to a list of officials that was comprised
of IKF Muay Thai Officials and to be fair,
some non IKF Muay Thai Officials from
around the world. The number of officials who were asked to review the bout was
then narrowed down due to some not able to respond or some knew one or both
fighters and felt their opinion may be a conflict of interest. When the review
started, 21 officials sent in their scores. This was an overwhelming number of
requested reviews as the IKF usually sends
out such a review request to only 7 IKF
Officials. The reason so many Officials were requested to do this internal
review was because this was such a high profile bout and the IKF felt it best to have a broader review. The event
Promoter on these reviews holds no part in the review process or the decision
other than they are made aware of the process.
These officials were from all parts of the United States along with Canada,
Mexico, Mainland Europe, United Kingdom, Australia and even Asia. Of the 21
Judges who were sent this clip.
Here were their results:
- 1 had it a draw.
- 2 had it 48-47 for Phetrachapat.
- 18 Judges scored the bout for Bolanos.
- 1 Judge had it 48-47 for Bolanos.
- 9 Judges scored it 49-46 for Bolanos.
- 1 Judges scored 50-47 for Bolanos - Giving a draw (10-10 score) in 2
rounds.
- 3 Judges scored 50-46 for Bolanos - Giving a draw in different rounds.
- 4 Judges scored 50-45 for Bolanos.
Based on the Internal Judges review, it is our responsibility and duty as
the regulatory/sanctioning body of this bout to Reverse the official decision of
this bout, giving Gaston Bolanos the official win by decision. The IKF would like to Thank all of the Muay Thai
Officials involved in determining the appropriate out come. |
