"Robert is the only Promoter who takes risks in bringing the World's best to Australia, to fight Australia's best" Both he & his "Thunderzone V" Show business partner Ahmed Elhaouli of Blue Lotus Cafe in Brisbane are true legends to bring such a HUGE EVENT to Australia. Barker had a shot at an IKF World Title but the rule style was different. It was back on March 19th, 1999 in Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA. On that night Jeff "DUKE" Roufus of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA was defending his IKF Pro Muay Thai Rules World Super Heavyweight Title he had won on December 4th, 1998 in Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA over Hiriwa TeRangi of New Zealand by unanimous decision 50-43 on all 3 judges cards.

As noted above, Barker had already beaten TeRangi 4 years earlier on November 1994 in Sydney for the ISKA Commonwealth Heavyweight Title. Because of this, many favored Barker for the title win. However Roufus quieted all the critics by starting hard and fast and then landed the "A Bomb" on the WKA World Champion Barker in a combination which included a leg kick, 2 knees to Barker's head and finished with a high head kick.

Barker hopes his ending will be much different come February 26th, 2010. Who knows, maybe he can meet Roufus in the ring again... Or maybe Duke's brother Rick "The Jet" Roufus, (Left) who is still active and VERY hungry for a fight...Not to mention, the

Number 1 Contender in the IKF Heavyweight IR division...

Roufus became the second IKF Mens PRO CHAMPION and the second IKF Mens Pro World Champion when he defeated Michael McDonald of Vancouver, BC, Canada, by "KO" at :43 seconds of round 1 under Full Contact - Above the waist rules. The bout was at Caesars Tahoe Casino in Tahoe, Nevada, USA on January 22nd, 1994.

On May 15th, 1999, The JET won the IKF Pro International Rules Heavyweight World title when he defeated Stan Longinidis of Boxhill, Victoria, Australia by TKO after Loniginidis suffered a broken bone in his foot at the end of round 9. Roufus was ahead on all 3 judges cards at the time, 89-81, 86-83 and 88-81. The bout was in Lowell Massachusetts, USA. He later retired the title when he thought he was retired, but has since of course, returned to the ring... And the Cage fighting also as an MMA Fighter.

The Jet would need to make his purse request reasonable for a trip down under for the title shot.
Something he may or may not want to do. A plane ticket to Aussie land alone can run around $1,000 + US Dollars...

Still, if the price is right and The Jet is "Good To Go" and we could see one of the Great Fights that never happened from years gone by. If so, Wilesmith may need to find a bigger venue, because this would be well worth the Ticket Price for Everyone!

MORE FIGHT NEWS...

So WHO Is
Tad Coffen?

Well, according to wikibin.org ol Tad is a former IKF World Champion... Oh wait, I said that wrong, he's an "undisputed World Cruiser Weight Kickboxing Champion holding titles for all the major kickboxing associations IKF, ISKA, KICK, WKA, and FFKA."

Know him now? Well, maybe this will help... According to wikibin.org he held a Pro kickboxing record of 28-2, with 19 wins by KO/TKO and was also a professional boxer with a record of 5-1 with 3 wins by KO/TKO.

According to wikibin.org he won his IKF Pro Full Contact Rules Heavyweight World Title when he defeated Barrington Patterson of Coventry, England by TKO at the end of the 5th round In Hawaii, USA on May 31st, 1989. His First Defense of this title was in May 1990 in Sacramento, California, USA when he Defeated Achille Roger of France by TKO in 5th round. Tad's World Title was retired by the IKF on November 24th, 2003...

WAIT A MINUTE! Is that really what the site wikibin.org says? Actually... Yes...

And Is It True?
ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Seems someone wanted to make a name for himself, so he did a little cut and paste from our Past IKF Pro Champions page located HERE and/or the wikapedia page located HERE and wa-la... Tad's a "Superstar!" See for yourself by clicking this link for Tad, wikibin.org/articles/tad-coffen.html and HERE.

To set the record straight, IKF President Steve Fossum issued a statement to Tad's info site which as of this news posting here, has yet to be approved and posted on the site...

I am the President of the IKF, International Kickboxing Federation. I would like to make it clear that NO ONE HERE at the IKF has EVER heard of a person/fighter named Tad Coffin!! He has NEVER been ranked or fought for the IKF let alone hold an IKF World Title. The bouts he is speaking of were won by Dennis Alexio, which you can read on our past pro IKF Champions page found here; http://www.ikfkickboxing.com/PastProChampions.htm We also checked out his pro boxing record, again, no such record of anyone by his name. WHY this guy would lie about such a fighting career and his titles is beyond anyone here. This should clear all this up...

Well... That should clear that up... Moving on...

We Lose Former IKF Champion
Wayne Jones

A Busy Life Cut Short

Former IKF Champion Wayne Jones past away over a year ago, yet we never knew this until today. Wayne was a Great Champion both in as well as out of the ring. Knowing this, we wanted to remember him among his peers here on the IKF web pages.
The article below was written by George Watkins back on September 25th, 2010 for the web site, www.thecalifornian.com

Wayne Jones couldn't keep his arms and legs busy enough. At age 10 he started taking karate lessons. As a teen-ager he became a standout wrestler at Alisal High School and San Jose State University. And when his college eligibility ended, he became a world champion Professional Kickboxer.

It was as if Jones spent his entire life in perpetual motion. But in a cruel twist, Wayne Jones could hardly move a muscle during the final days of his life. Jones fell victim to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Jones died at age 49 on April 28 in San Jose. He leaves a wife, Carolyn.

About a week ago Jones was inducted into the San Jose State University Sports Hall of Fame. "The [Hall of Fame] ceremony was just so amazing," said Wayne's dad, John Jones of Salinas. "They had his medals, plaques and all the induction people on the stage." Wayne Jones was pictured on a big screen for all to see and remember. "That really got to me," said John Jones. "Some of his wrestling teammates came over to me and so did his coach, T.J. Kerr. They told a couple of funny stories." Jones wrestled for Palma High for one year, but earned a scholarship to San Jose State after two championship years at Alisal High during a time when prep wrestling in Monterey County was at its peak.

Jones was a two-time league champion and state qualifier. He placed sixth at the state meet at 106 pounds as a senior. Jones' reputation soared once he arrived at San Jose State. His .807 winning percentage was third highest in SJS history. His 96 wins rank fourth on the school's all-time list. Jones earned All-American status while at San Jose State in 1982 when the Spartans went 18-2 and won their third straight Pacific Coast Athletic Association title. He placed ninth that year at the NCAA tourney. In 1982 Jones won four 126-pound tournament titles, including the PCAA crown to help launch the SJS wrestling program into national prominence. Jones was also a key figure in San Jose State's first wrestling victory ever over Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo. He overcame a pulled hamstring — an injury that subsequently knocked him out of the collegiate and freestyle season — to win his match.

In 1994, Jones beat Steve Haleman by knockout, 61 seconds into Round Two to capture the International Kickboxing Federation California Welterweight title. He later won a world kickboxing title.

In an e-mail posted on the SJS wrestling Website came this note from one of his college teammates; "I was a teammate of Wayne's for only a year but I never forgot him or the stellar performance he put on at the 1982 NCAA championships. He was an unseeded wrestler who ended up placing third and beating Iowa State's Joe Gibbons [in Iowa!]. "He went through our brutal practices. He got $10 meal money on a road trip. He ran laps around the campus. He cut weight. He got hurt. We all did this together."

GEORGE WATKINS is a sports writer for The Salinas Californian. Contact him by e-mail at gwatkins@thecalifornian.com or by phone at (831) 754-4264.

Rest in Peace Wayne,
You are one of God's Champions now...

Mick Bland Presents
IKF Fight Night
Kilkenny, Ireland

The Top Pro Kickboxing Club in Kilkenny promoted an exciting evening of Full Contact Kickboxing in the Ormonde Hotel, Kilkenny on Sunday, October 17th. The event had 13 action packed bouts on the card including 2 IKF Amateur Title defences much to the delight of the capacity audience. Indeed Kilkenny seems to be still one of Irelands Kickboxing hotspots due to the sheer enthusiasm of the spectators and the energy put into the shows on offer there by the various promoters.

One of the highlights of the evening was a spectacular knockout caused by a picture perfect spinning back kick from Dubliner Danny Farrell which landed flush on the jaw of the unfortunate Shea Fitzpatrick from the home camp at 1 minute and 50 seconds into round 1. Thankfully Shea is fine but it really showed that good stand up fighting is hard to beat.

Five fighters from the Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club were in action and they came away with four wins and just one defeat. The first fighter up for Galway was eight year old Alex Fitzpatrick who fights out of the Tuam and Galway Black Dragon clubs and he took an excellent win over the home fighter Jack Bland whose corner stopped the fight in the third round giving Alex the win by TKO.

Adam Canavan lost by points decision to Kilkennys Connor Dowling in an entertaining contest which saw Dowling being just that bit busier and catching the judges eyes.

Gary Giles from Claregalway had a three round war with Kilkennys Dermot O' Rourke with Giles taking a unanimous points victory.

Charlie Ward made a mandatory 1st defence of his IKF Junior Light Welterweight All Ireland Title to number 1 contender Eric Nolan from Dublin. This was a highly entertaining contest which went the full five round championship distance and one which had the crowd on the edge of their seats. Ward started to pull away from the third round onwards and he had the Dubliner in serious trouble in the fourth forcing a standing 8 count. All credit to Nolan, he showed he had heart and tried to fire back but Charlie teed off on him in the fifth and final round and had him on the ropes with some blistering left hooks and body and head kicks which once again saw the Referee administer an 8 count. It looked like it was all over for the Dubliner but the bell rang and the contest went to the judges. With two standing 8 counts there was little doubt that Charlie Ward had retained his title and sure enough, he was awarded a well deserved unanimous victory. Charlies next fight will be an International contest in Galways Black Box Theatre at "Seasons Beatings 3" when he takes on Swiss fighter Kevin Traversier from Geneva on December 4th.

The last fight of the night at the Kilkenny show saw IKF Senior All Ireland Welterweight Champ Alex "The Pit Bull" Novac make a mandatory defence of his title to Kilkennys John O' Shea and the crowd were now at fever pitch. O' Shea was called to ring first to a deafening round of applause and in fairness when Novac was called, he too got a great reception from a very sporting and appreciative audience. After instructions from Referee Brian "Goldie" Bourke the battle began. The first round was even enough with both men trying to make each other out. The action heated up in the second and both fighters were dropping bombs on the other but Novac stayed composed and probably nicked the round. The third round however saw Novac get fired up and after a serious chat with his corner during the minute break he had O' Shea in big trouble with some vicious overhand rights which landed flush on the Kilkenny mans face and cutting him over the left eye. The writing was on the wall now and Alex went in for the kill and after a barrage of powerful kicks and unanswered punches which saw O' Shea on the canvas, his corner threw in the towel giving Alex victory by TKO. Alex will also be featured on the "Seasons Beatings 3" promotion in the Black Box Theatre on December 4th.

Here are all the nights results in detail:

  1. Daniel Dowling (Kilkenny) and Michael Scully (Thurles) fought to a majority draw, 29-29, 29-28, 29-29.

  2. Patrick Scully (Thurles) defeated Jack Dowling by majority decision, 29-28, 29-28, 28-29.

CHAD SUGDEN
WINS SECOND IKF JUNIOR WORLD TITLE

Having won the IKF World title at Lightweight last year, Chad Sugden turned in another top performance to take the title at welterweight defeating IKF World Classic Champion David Lenson from New York. David tried throughout to take the fight to Chad but found the UK fighter just too sharp. Still, full credit must go to the New York based fighter for giving it 100% as he always does.

The show was the first IKF sanctioned event held at the prestigious Kelham Hall, one of the best venues in the country. The whole event was a great success and the management team of IKF Europe would like to commend promoter Dean Sugden for a fantastic event.

California State Athletic Commissions
MUAY THAI Sub Committee Meeting
Lots Talked About... Will There Be Positive Action?

As we noted in the story below, some had raised the question here in California as to, "Why does CSAC post a MUAY THAI sub committee meeting 10-18-10 but tell everyone it is not?" According to many, a "Sub-Committee" meeting is a subset of committee members organized for a specific purpose, a special group delegated to consider some matter that keeps minutes.

Sitting at the head table running the meeting were John Frierson, Mario Rodriguez, (?) CSAC Executive Officer George Dodd and DCA Legal advisor Anita Scuri. Here is what we have to report from two sources who were at the meeting, one of which was IKF President Steve Fossum.

In the audience along with Fossum were Brian Dobler, and two associates of his who were there representing the "Non-Profit" "Thai boxing Association" Sanctioning body. Under Business and Professions Code section 18646 the CSAC can appoint a 'non profit' regulatory body to oversee an amateur fight sport if qualified. However, everyone here in California witnessed how those on the CSAC commission overlooked the word "Qualified" when it came to Amateur MMA and appointed CAMO in 2009. It's been an embarrassing mess for them and an extremely costly mess for amateur mma fighters and promoters ever since.

After seeing what CAMO has done with it's appointment here in California, it was clear that Dobler was in the crosshairs of everyone else in the audience for his desire to "cash in" on the same "monopoly" that CAMO has been getting a paycheck for ever since.

The TBA we know runs a good Muay Thai Tournament in Iowa. The Thai Boxing Association has been around for years and was established in 1968 by Ajarn Chai. However, their experience as a "Regulatory Body" is something close to another CAMO. Still, we can say that TBA has a "Little" more experience than CAMO. When CAMO was appointed to regulate amateur mma in California, they had sanctioned "ZERO" events.

As a "Sanctioning" or "Regulatory Body" the TBA has been operating since June of 2007. Since their beginning in June of 2007, they have had 17 events under their name in the last 40 months. One of the 4, 2010 events was this past April in Santa Monica California and the TBA had 3 Amateur TBA-SA/IMTA Titles bouts, co-sanctioned with IMTA, a much larger Thai Boxing organization than TBA.

Yet as everyone in California knows, sanctioning an amateur or pro kickboxing or muay thai event in California is a "Cake Walk". The sanctioning body doesn't even need to show up at the weigh-ins let alone the event itself because the CSAC oversees EVERYTHING. Sanctioning an event in California is nothing like sanctioning an event in an unregulated state.

Six of the 16 TBA sanctioned events were known as Ring Wars and were promoted by John Falewitch and Aaron Cerrone in Nebraska.

Ten of the 17 TBA sanctioned events were promoted by the TBA Sanctioning body President, Pete Peterson. Of those 10, 4 of them were their TBA Open National Tournaments (Muay Thai Classic), just like USA Boxing promotes and just like the IKF World Classic Tournament that the IKF hosts each year, and the remaining 6 TBA Sanctioned events were Peterson's own "RoundKick Rumble" events.

As we said, Dobler's presence and his reason for being there had already angered many.
"Brian seems like a great guy and I know Pete Peterson is." Said IKF President Fossum.
"However, we all liked Jeremy Lappen and J.T. Steele of Camo too, and still do as individuals, but look what they did to amateur MMA in California. Everyone realizes this time around, this is not about 'Personal' feelings. This time around none of us will allow ourselves to be 'back-doored and blind sided' as we were with the Camo appointment. No matter how much we may like Brian or Pete, we can see the writing on the walls this time thanks to CAMO!"

As everyone in California learned with CAMO, "It's about the facts and how they are presented, when they are presented and WHY." Said Fossum. Everyone else at the meeting sees Dobler's efforts to take over Amateur Muay Thai and Kickboxing in California as an insult to what is already working and those involved in Kickboxing and Muay Thai in California can't afford another CAMO! These sports cannot and will not tolerate any such attempt to take over amateur Kickboxing and Muay Thai by anyone, even the IKF! The Commission is already doing a good job, they just need some improvements to the system.

If there is any appointment to be made, the only logical appointment would be to drop the "non profit' requirement and have the state approve 3-4 amateur muay thai and kickboxing sanctioning bodies to oversee these sports in California as they do in states like Nevada, Missouri, Oklahoma, Florida and other states.

Anthony Lin,

Others in the meeting included Muay Thai event Promoter Anthony Lin, CSAC referee Dej "Nokweed" Sriampai and his wife and Muay Thai Promoter Robin Hart (Stand Up Promotions), Jeff Baca, Muay Thai Trainer and Montri Sunpanich, President of the MTAA, Muay Thai Association of America. Also in the meeting watching over Dobler and his efforts were Jeremy Lappen and J.T. Steele of CAMO.

Dobler spoke first and as expected, tried to explain how appointing the TBA to oversee amateur Muay Thai and Kickboxing as was done in California with CAMO last year was a great idea. However, what he failed to prove was any true experience of the TBA as a true regulatory body. What he made were claims of what he thought he and the TBA could do, but with no supporting structure behind any of it for experience, qualifications, credibility or history. Simply put, everyone saw Dobler and his push for the TBA to regulate Amateur kickboxing and Muay Thai as yet another CAMO with a different name. What some saw as a valid threat to the stand up fight sports in California was quickly brushed away after his brief presentation.

Muay Thai trainer Jeff Baca spoke next stressing what many wanted the meeting for years ago. A clear understanding of what rules the fighters, trainers and promoters are expected to follow under the CSAC. For years and even more so, over the 12-14 months, these rules have varied greatly from event to event. Differences in weight spreads, safety equipment, glove size and other issues. He also stressed the need for proper training of all CSAC Officials who want to work a Muay Thai event. Right now, many are accepting appointments as officials and know nothing about judging let alone referring Muay Thai. This is no surprise since the CSAC has not had an officials training for Kickboxing and or Muay Thai Referees and judges in the last 10-15 years and possible even longer. Heck, we even see MMA referees who came out of no where during the Armando Garcia reign (As CSAC Executive Director) and now they want to be a referee in Kickboxing and or Muay Thai, which is much harder than refereeing MMA!

Anthony Lin spoke next. Surprisingly Lin had two agendas in mind. One of course was his stance against the TBA being appointed by the CSAC as the Amateur Muay Thai regulatory body saying "Muay Thai should be for everyone." However, the surprise that followed was when Lin also presented his own United States Muaythai Federation (USMF) of which he is the founder and President of, as the organization that "will be appointed soon through the Olympic movement to oversee amateur Muay Thai."

Lin, like Peterson both promote their own events and use their own sanctioning bodies to sanction their own events and their own Title Fights for their own fighters. A conflict of interest we saw ISKA do in the 90's with their Strikeforce Kickboxing events and a practice done by another bay area promoter Mike Espinoza. This practice is very common in MMA where promoters often hold their own title fights under the name of their own promotion, not a neutral sanctioning body as with pro Boxing. In the past, Lin has asked the IKF to join in with his USMF. An odd request since the USMF has only been around a couple of years and the IKF has been around since 1992. On top of that, Lin's USMF has only sanctioned his own events in California and another one he co-promoted in Houston, Texas. of course, the California events are overseen by the CSAC. The IKF is worldwide and oversees events without state commissions over 90% of the time. The "ONLY" event the IKF Promotes is their open tournament for amateurs, the IKF World Classic, just like USA Boxing does for Amateur Boxing.

Along with Baca, Lin stressed the need for rules that were more standard instead of dealing with rule variations from event to event. Lin himself has a vast amount of experience in Muay Thai as the CEO of Fairtex Worldwide, manufactures of apparel and of course, the well known Fairtex Fight Gear approved by both the IKF and ISCF MMA organizations. He also promotes a well known event here in California known as "War of Heros". He has ties with IFMA, International Federation of Muaythai Amateur, World Muaythai Council, WBC Muay Thai.

It would be a nice connection if Lin were to take the champions in the Muay Thai division from the yearly IKF World Classic Tournament to go to Thailand and compete in the IFMA World Tournament. However, instead, Lin selects his own athletes to represent USA for the IFMA World Championship in Bangkok, Thailand. Wouldn't those who compete in an "OPEN" Tournament be more respected to represent the USA than a group of hand picked athletes? Sounds a little like what the European sanctioning body WAKO and USA's KICK sanctioning body have had a habit of doing. They never send "The Qualified Best." They just send who they pick...

IKF President Steve Fossum spoke next. Fossum's main focus was for the CSAC to NOT delegate Amateur Kickboxing and or Muay Thai to anyone! Fossum stressed the appointment of another CAMO type of organization would simply kill Amateur Kickboxing and or Muay Thai, especially if they took advantage of the Monopoly of having just one appointed organization as CAMO is.

He went on to agree with many of Baca's points of the need for standardized rules and more so, training of Officials. "The system in California with the CSAC overseeing events works." explained Fossum. "We just need to address the problem areas and work to better them or correct them."

Fossum also offered the services of IKF Officials to train other officials of the state. A wise offering since the IKF often uses probably the best kickboxing and Muay Thai referee in the State if not the nation, Dan Stell (R). Stell comes from an experienced background as an undefeated amateur and pro kickboxer, trainer of many kickboxing champions, event matchmaker as well as former promoter. He has also been a judge and referee in not just Kickboxing and Muay Thai but is one of the best in MMA and Boxing too. He was just recently given the assignment of the WBA Super World Super Middleweight title bout coming up at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California on November 27th between Andre Ward and Sakio Bika in the Pro Boxing's "Super Six World Boxing Classic" on Showtime Sports.

Fossum also addressed items such as

Fossum also addressed ideas as to how the CSAC could lower their own overhead at events such as using less inspectors or more "inspectors in training" to work the locker-rooms at events. Right now the CSAC is losing money because the desire up to 8 locker room inspectors at $18 + an hour per event. At an Amateur Kickboxing or Muay Thai event the CSAC receives 5% of the gross gate or a minimum of $500 gate tax. They also collect yearly license fees for trainers/cornermen as well. However, on an event that lasts from 7PM to say 11:PM, during those 4 hours, they not only have the chief inspector to pay but those other 6-8 at $18/hour which can be a CSAC bill of upwards of $600, well above the basic $500 fee they take in from the Promoter.

When the topic of "Smoker - In gym" events came up, Fossum suggested this is the venue where these new officials can learn how to judge and or referee Kickboxing and or Muay Thai as well as current officials can better their skills. As in USA Amateur Boxing, they could work smoker-in gym events for free to learn, and the CSAC can be assured of fighter safety since they would have CSAC officials in training present at the events. Even inspectors in training. This way, fighters can attain more experience in a "Learning" environment where no winners are announced and the officials can learn right along with them.

Dej "Nokweed" Sriampai, his wife Robin Hart and Montri Sunpanich all added brief comments which were pretty much the same as the others above in regards to ideas and suggestions how to better Muay Thai with the CSAC overseeing it. When asked, Jeremy Lappen and J.T. Steele made no comments.

All in all the meeting brought up some very good points and things that need to improve for Amateur Kickboxing and Muay Thai. Muay Thai of course was discussed far more than regular kickboxing though. there still remains the question of the "Booties" rule that is oddly still in the CSAC's rules and regulations for Amateur Kickboxing and Muay Thai. These are the foot pads that cover the entire foot, toes and heel as was used and still is used in Above the waist American Rules Full Contact kickboxing. According to DCA Legal Advisor Anita Scuri, she seemed to make a point that the rule must remain "For all styles, even Muay Thai" until legislature changes it which could take up to 6-8 months. We are still waiting to see if this truly is the stance the CSAC wants to take... An OLD rule that was just never updated as the fighting styles changed, more so to Muay Thai.

To summarize, as Commissioner John Frierson said at the end of the meeting, "We have had these things brought to us before, and we looked at them." However, as in the past at meetings like this one, what he failed to actually say was that he and others will actually
"Take Action" and improve the Amateur Kickboxing and Muay Thai Rules and Regulations.
Not actually saying this of course left many wondering... "Is delegation still on their mind, or will they actually follow through with positive action from this meeting?"

From what we see, we know the new CSAC Executive Officer George Dodd will follow through with what he can do, we just need to know for sure if Mario Rodriguez, John Frierson and any other needed commissioners will follow through with the much needed improvements.

TIME FOR CALIFORNIA TO MAKE A STAND?!

California State Athletic Commission To Hold
MUAY THAI Sub Committee Meeting Monday
And Some Are Question What The True Agenda Is...

Some have raised the question here in California, "Why does CSAC post a MUAY THAI sub committee meeting 10-18-10 but tell everyone it is not?" According to many, a "Sub-Committe" meeting is a subset of committee members organized for a specific purpose, a special group delegated to consider some matter that keeps minutes.

FOR MEETING INFO CLICK HERE

The title has changed on the link above to "Sharholders Meeting???" Not sure what that means, but on the CSAC's front page, it is still entitled, "Muay Thai Subcommittee Meeting - October 18, 2010" - Click Here.

Some feel the CSAC is set and ready to delegate Amateur Muay Thai and Kickboxing to some unqualified, inexperienced group as they did amateur mma last year, and what a JOKE that was! To read about that disaster click HERE.

Despite these worries, here is what the IKF was told by the CSAC earlier this week as to the Goals of this meeting:

The true intention is to get some input for Muay Thai rules within Title IV.
Right now the Commission has nothing and they group Muay Thai with kickboxing rules, so right now the Commissions main focus is getting input for rules. The California State Athletic Commission is not ready to have another regulatory body running something the California State Athletic Commission is already capable of doing.

There was more to this e-mail, but this should sum it up.

However, the question to ask is WHY is this how they are explaining the meeting when the outline of the meeting at the link above is DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT?! Here is what it says at the link above;

At recent California State Athletic Commission meetings there has been proposed a need for specific Amateur Muay Thai rules and oversight, separate and distinct from Amateur MMA. There will be a stakeholders meeting to discuss these issues scheduled for 2:00 PM, October 18, 2010 in 6150 Van Nuys Boulevard Van Nuys, CA 91401, Van Nuys State Building. Any interested individuals or organizations are encouraged to submit a short written single page document outlining any concerns or possible agenda items for this stakeholder meeting. Please email these items or documents no later than September 11, 2010 to george.dodd@dca.ca.gov.

Hmmm... Sounds like they are saying one thing while the actual agenda of the meeting is something completely different... In fact, SCARY Different if we are looking at the possibility of another CRAP (YES, WE SAID CRAP!!!) Regulatory Body to oversee Amateur Muay Thai and Kickboxing like they did with CAMO! ESPECIALLY if the CSAC only chooses a "Non Profit" Organization because we know of NO Non Profit Org with enough experience to oversee amateur Muay Thai or Kickboxing in California... And those of you who have been talking with the Commission, your T?? sanctioning body is FAR from being well qualified let alone experienced enough to do so... JUST LIKE CAMO WASN'T!

"IF" this meeting turns out to be a meeting where those organizing it are going to, or ready to "Appoint" an outside organization as was done with amateur mma and the CAMO organization, the IKF's participation in the meeting will change drastically from a very positive feeling of what needs to be accomplished to better Muay Thai in the State of California to a very negative one of "What" or "Who" is now trying to change a VERY GOOD SYSTEM already in effect?

The IKF strongly feel that Muay Thai and Kickboxing NEEDS to stay under the regulation of the California State Athletic Commission and NOT be delegated out to or appointed to another outside regulatory body as was done with CAMO. EVERYONE in California has all seen the problems that came up with the CAMO appointment with Amateur MMA. Amateur Muay Thai and Kickboxing is working well in California right now. It would be negative to the growth of Amateur Muay Thai and Kickboxing if ANY outside regulatory body took it over unless there were 3-4 choices for Amateur Kickboxing and or Muay Thai promoters to choose from. The IKF has been a part of this structure in other states and this has worked well. However, being a Non Profit (As the CSAC Rules require an outside appointed regulatory body to be) does not make a better organization by ANY means. As everyone in California has seen with CAMO, USA Boxing and other sanctioning bodies such as Kick International (Sanctioning body out of Missouri) such a title of "Non Profit" means NOTHING!

With CAMO this decision turned out to be a TERRIBLE appointment. In defense of the CSAC's decision, who would have that CAMO would have turned out to be such an unethical group? Really now, $2,500.00 charged to an Amateur MMA Promoter to sanction "1" Event? Mandatory Amateur Fighter registration fees of $115.00 a year? Pleaseeee... Someone is making some $$$ off their Non Profit Monopoly here!

Amateur mma was never allowed prior to CAMO's appointment in California and CAMO didn't exist "ANYWHERE" prior to the appointment. So again, no one knew what "Could" have happened with CAMO let alone anticipate what did happen.

What everyone in Amateur Kickboxing and Muay Thai can hope for in this meeting is a discussion as to rules and "TRAINING" of Referees and of course Judges for both Kickboxing and Muay Thai. No one knows when the last Officials training happened for Kickboxing and Muay Thai officials. We here at the IKF can say for sure it hasn't been done in the last "10-15 Years" yet we keep seeing more and more Boxing and MMA Officials working Muay Thai and Kickboxing events. From this of course, we often hear complaints about referees and judges who simply do not know the rules or procedures of a referee in a Muay Thai bout, let alone any details of scoring.

The IKF is more than willing to assist in any way to improve these needed officials for Muay Thai and Kickboxing with training seminars as we do worldwide. We look forward to this being the main focus of the meeting and can only hope there is no unknown agenda that anyone will be surprised with. ESPECIALLY if someone is bold enough to actually speak up at this meeting and has the boldness to claim "THEY" want to take over amateur Muay Thai and Kickboxing in California as CAMO did with Amateur MMA. If there is such a person or group, know that the IKF will be STRONGLY against your desires to profit from Amateur Muay Thai and Kickboxing as CAMO has done and in your process to attain their status, we will be your chief advisory!

We WILL NOT allow Amateur Muay Thai and Kickboxing to fall into the hands of some greedy, inexperienced, unqualified, unorganized, so called non-profit, regulatory/sanctioning body as did amateur MMA with CAMO! if this appears to be the plan of this meeting Monday, we as well as many press organizations will be ready for a full 12 rounds to fight about such an appointment... Get your gloves on California... It's time to MAKE A STAND!

AK Promotions' IKF Muay Thai Kickboxing Championship...
All that...and Then Some!

When it was all said and done...one would guess that most of the fans who packed the Grand Ballroom of the Doubletree Hotel this past Friday for the IKF Muay Thai Kickboxing fights, did not walk away disappointed! The fights were an awesome display of "Feet and Fists of Fury" as advertised! Fans were brought to their feet throughout the night as they witnessed several knockouts, head and jump kicks and great athleticism! This event was more than just good fights, it was an indication that the Sport of Kickboxing & Muay Thai is getting stronger and more than ready to step on the main stage of entertainment...

Potential Sponsors take note...This Sport Is Ready and waiting for YOU!

Results From Red Dragon Fight Nights'
IKF Championship Kickboxing
October 2nd, 2010 - Swansea, Wales

Photos By Richard Hobson Photography: www.richardhobsonphotography.co.uk - 02920 860 100

In the first event held in Wales under the new management of IKF Europe Red Dragon Fight Nights produced a fantastic event and two of the best title fights that will be held this year.

In the main event Qasim Beg defended his IKF British Professional Super Lightweight FCR title against hometown boy Martin Mainwaring but had to come through some tough moments before doing so as Mainwaring started fast. However after suffering cuts from the 5th round onwards Qasim got stronger as the fight went on and putting him down for a count in the 9th round Mainwaring was rescued by the referee Wayne Rodrigues shortly after.

Fighting for the IKF Atomweight Amateur FCR title Kelly Mainwaring and Whitney Huish provided possibly the best female fight held in the UK this year. It was described as 'The Hagler v Hearns for the females'. The two of them just went at it at a tremendous pace. Huish taking a count early in the first round but coming back to push Mainwaring all the way. In the end, after taking some heavy punishment in the 4th round Whitney signalled that she could take no more after taking a tremendous jab halfway through the 5th round. It was a truly great fight.

IKF Europe would like to pass on their congratulations to the promoters for a great event.

IKF Muay Thai Kickboxing Event
Will Be A Showcase For The Sport!

Three Big Title Fights Planned- Plus, IKF United States Super Heavyweight Elimination Added!
Sacramento, California, USA

This Friday Night the Doubletree Hotel's Grand Ballroom will be packed with fight fans coming to witness one of the greatest contact sports in the world...IKF Muay Thai Kickboxing! Approximately15 fights are set to battle when the first bell sounds at 7:PM to kick off what is planned to be one of the biggest and best kickboxing shows in the United States!

The momentum for such an event has been building for the past year and ready to take center stage as the beautiful Doubletree Hotel will be transformed into a Las Vegas-like venue ready to please average fight fans and famous personalities in attendance! However, if you are looking for a great event to attend this weekend with adult beverage, great food, beautiful ring girls and great fighting entertainment, then the Doubletree Hotel is the place to be!

Friday's event will feature three IKF titles including a great welterweight rematch, an IKF United States and IKF West Coast Title fight.

But there is even more exciting news for Friday nights fight fans! A Super Heavyweight elimination tournament to an eventual IKF United States Super Heavyweight Title fight. This event has the potential to set the stage for even greater things to come for the sport! Fighters from across the state will travel to Sacramento this weekend and many of them will bring hundreds of well-wishers to cheer them on to a victory!

"The advertising campaign has gone well" says AKP's President Johnny Davis of Rocklin, California. "We've had great attendance at all of our most recent events but for this event, we have joined forces with Markstein Beverage distributors of Budweiser Beer of Sacramento and have done additional marketing to inform more people about the event. In fact, starting this week, we are running a ton of ads on two local radio stations, in area newspapers as well as our normal marketing routine. Therefore, we are expecting a huge crowd and tickets are already showing the kind of movement that may indeed set records for the promotion! One thing for sure, the fight fans will see some of the best Kickboxing / fights ever!"

Davis advises everyone not to wait to get tickets at the door as the venue has limited seating.

When it comes to top promotions for the sport of Kickboxing in the State of California, AK Promotions is attempting to make its mark in the fighting entertainment industry and with the support of the fighters, fans and the IKF, this Friday Night's Live Kickboxing event will be another step in the right direction!

See you at the Doubletree!
